PureTIP Plus Standalone System (SaS)

IonField’s new standalone tip cleaning system, originally designed to upcycle the 1 mL filter tips, takes plastic reuse to the next level by using a continuous pull of plasma up through the tip which makes it more powerful than the current PureTIP LHC due to increased plasma energy density. 

After a few seconds, racks tips are PCR-clean and ready for reuse.

What was the driver to find an upcycling solution for filtered tips?

 

  • IonField received NIH funding for the development of a product to clean filter pipettes used for COVID-19 testing.
  • We enhanced our plasma technology to clean filtered pipette tips in global short supply and the availability of other tips experiencing concurrent supply chain disruption.
  • Recent iterations of the prototype expand PureTIP SaS to small volume tips and spin tips, with a wide range of related uses in development.

How Does PureTIP SaS clean filtered tips?

  • Pipette tips are lowered into the plasma gas.
  • Then plasma is pulled through the tip and filter continuously.
  • Maximum plasma intensity is achieved in a few seconds, as the tip fills with pure plasma.
  • Currently cleaning to background, which is defined as 42 cts at the site, running with RNA standard plates and gamma-irradiated Covid-19 RNA plates.
  • The focus of our testing = 1 mL filtered conductive tips from Hamilton. Lower-volume tips would require less time exposure to the plasma.
  • The lab we’re working with transfers 800 uL with that tip, so virtually all of the interior surface of the tip is contaminated with residual fluid.
  • With qPCR testing to about 60 copies at background – a high bar for testing.
  • The samples tested were an RNA standard routinely used and some gamma-irradiated SAR-CoV-2 RNA.
